Vote for Adan

I am running to be ASUWB President! My name is Adan Rodriguez. I am a double-degree student in business administration and mechanical engineering. I have three main goals in mind: fighting against a quarterly parking permit price increase and unclear processes, improving campus food quality and options, and increasing involvement opportunities in student government and government in general.

I have far more details and ideas beyond these—follow my Instagram for more—including ensuring ranked choice voting is used in the ASUWB elections next year and that the elections are organized far more in advance and simplified so that NO positions are uncontested (60% of positions being uncontested this year is unacceptable).

While I have a broad perspective, I understand the importance of dialogue and getting input—YOUR input. I want YOU to fill out my two-question anonymous survey about how UWB can be improved, which you can access here or below on this page.

If you wish to provide contact info, I am ecstatic to personally respond to your input! Regardless of whether you vote for me, I am committed to representing all UWB students, and I know that I cannot represent everyone without listening. I would be honored to read your survey response and to earn your vote! Thank you.

Just Two Short Questions:

Fill out this two-question survey to anonymously let me know how you think UWB can be improved! If you provide contact info, I will give you a personalized response and am happy to have a dialogue!

By hearing both types of ideas, I will better appreciate your highest priorities and be able to find innovative solutions. Furthermore, some of the bold ideas that you thought unlikely may be doable! Give me your small ideas and your big ideas. The worst that can happen is that I understand what you want. :)

I don't want the price of the parking permit to increase, and I don't think you want that either. ASUWB gets a vote on the Commuter Services Committee, which decides the price of the parking permits, and I will ensure that your vote is against any increase that is not NEEDED.

I have firsthand experience getting parking permits, including the carpool permit. The processes are unclear and more complicated than necessary. Getting a carpool permit should not require a file submission via email AFTER you apply for a permit. That wastes the time of Commuter Services AND us students.

Do you know what the benefits of the carpool permit are? There are lots of empty carpool spaces in the South Parking Garage when cars are parked higher up. That is indicative of the complicated process and a lack of understanding of WHY you should get one.

Bottom line: prevent the parking permit price from increasing and improve the permitting process.

Do you LIKE the food on campus? How often do you eat the food on campus? I eat campus food regularly, and I know it can be better. There are some winners, like the BBQ chicken flatbread, but there are also some real losers, like the tuna melt.

Do you like having quality food? Do you like having options? Do you like knowing who to go to for change? Then vote for me! ASUWB gets seats on the food committee. I will ensure that the ASUWB appointees are more active in improving food quality and options with my oversight.

Bottom line: we all know that campus food can be better, and I am making this a priority because I believe it is OUR priority. Everybody needs to eat.

ASUWB can and will do more under my leadership to increase involvement opportunities in student government and government in general. Both paid and unpaid.

I know that people want to be more involved, especially with the state government's budget deficit threatening tuition raises and funding cuts and the federal government's actions that, among other things, threaten students. At Huskies on the Hill (HOTH), tens of UWB students volunteered their time to go to Olympia to speak to state legislators. They did that completely for free, and many of them want to do more! ASUWB can better engage those students and others who weren't able to come. HOTH is just a taste of what is possible.

I want ASUWB to have an extensive Volunteer & Intern program! There are many intern positions in UW Seattle's student government, and it's not simply because they are proportionally bigger; ASUWB has NO intern program right now. Just as at UWS, there are students that want internship opportunities. It is a win-win! THEY get experience, meaningful work, and direction, and ASUWB does more for YOU. Interns may even get a quarterly stipend.

I am well aware of the ASUWB budget and what it is capable of, as I made it (I am the current Director of Finance of ASUWB). I've ensured that ASUWB has the funds it needs to excel next year! ASUWB has the funding for the positions it needs to function. Thus, ASUWB has time and money to do its duty to represent you. ASUWB can't really get additional funds, so how does ASUWB do more? By getting more time via interns!

Two bonus points: If elected, I will organize the ASUWB elections in advance and un-complicate them so that NO positions are uncontested (60% of positions being uncontested this year is unacceptable). Also, I would implement Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) to strengthen your vote. Watch the 94-second video about RCV here (scroll down a bit)!: https://fairvote.org/our-reforms/ranked-choice-voting/
